For Therapists and Certification

Consultation and Supervision

Consultation/Supervision Group for Therapists/Individual consultation for Therapists

Both forms of consultation can be used to acquire hours needed for certification.

Individual Consultation

This form of consultation is an hour session that can be used for certification. We view videos of sessions and focus on the attachment themes, what steps and stage of the EFT process the couple is in, and how the therapist is feeling about his/her work. Consultation is a place to learn and grow as an EFCT therapist. The more experience one has with viewing and analyzing their work, the more integrative this process becomes. The goal of individual consultation is to feel stronger and confident as an EFCT therapist. My approach with therapists in consultation is to help them integrate attachment theory, slowing the cycle of the couple, and working with the emotion of the couple, into the style of the therapist. We work on making this approach as part of you, not you trying to be part of the approach.

The group is for therapists that are learning emotionally focused couple therapy. It helps therapists hone skills, techniques, attachment theory, and emotionally focused therapy principles, to deepen their knowledge, confidence, and expertise using this model.

We  meet for two hours as a group and show segments of videos of our own sessions with couples. We will use supportive feedback on those sessions to help deepen the skill base for each therapist. I realize, that as a therapist certified in emotionally focused couple therapy, that you need to continue to challenge yourself, be engaged with learning the model, and be focused with analyzing how we are reacting within this model. Emotionally Focused couple Therapy is a very active and hands-on approach. To improve our competency using this model, we need to continually observe ourselves, and be aware of how we are connecting and responding to our couples.

The group meets twice a month, the first and third Friday. Individual consults are made according to schedule and need.

EFT BootCamp

We need to stay in shape to keep up with the pace of our couples during sessions. As therapists we have to be in condition to track the cycle, heighten the attachment theme, know what step in the EFT model the couple is in, and identify emotion. These focus points are the foundation of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy. When we lose some steam, get tired or distracted, then we slip, and tend to get stuck in the content of the session. We’re then off track of the EFT process.

EFT BootCamp is a sure way to stay in EFT condition. Therapists will bring in video/audio segments of sessions and we will observe the process of those clips. We will focus on the EFT aspects of the sessions, paying attention to: cycle, attachment, steps, and emotion. This will give the therapist repetitive exercise at focusing on the attachment/EFT themes. It will stimulate the process parts of the brain to keep developing, get stronger, and have more stamina. As a result we feel more engaged with our couples, have more confidence as therapists, and we can integrate the EFT model in a more fluid manner.

This training can be used as consultation hours towards certification.
