A new, quarterly, “EFT,” program, has been created for the Minnesota community. The purpose of this program is to help therapists who want to increase their competency using this model, as well as to help those who want to achieve certification as an Emotionally Focused Therapist. This training is for those therapists who are new to EFT as well as those that have been practicing for a while. This is an experiential learning program. It is designed to train your brain to respond to the emotional and attachment needs of your couple.
We are conditioned, socialized, and wired to be cognitive. In order to make sense of our lives we use the intellectual part of our brain. As therapists we’ve been trained to be cognitive in order to diagnose, treat, and explain what we are doing with clients. As therapists our “go to” reflex is to think, analyze, and problem solve. This takes us away from the process of staying with emotion and helping the couple to connect with their vulnerability. In order to be effective using EFT, we have to develop the part of the brain that activates emotional attunement towards self and others. The way this program is different than other workshops or trainings, is that you will focus on yourself and train your brain, to be fully attuned to yourself and the couples you work with. This training program will help you to learn, practice, and develop the part of you that will relate with your couple emotionally, and help them to connect more securely in a safe and intimate way. This will be accomplished through experiential exercises, viewing training videos, and watching video sessions of the facilitator. Special attention is paid to the process of each participant. The goal is for you to become aware of your emotions and vulnerability, and to use this to enhance your work.
There will be experiential quarterly trainings that are a day and a half long, where specific skill sets are presented, demonstrated, and practiced. Time will be designated for clinical consultation on cases that can be used towards certification.
This program is not a replacement for Core Skills Advanced Training. It is a support for those therapists who are unable to take the Core Skills program as well as a supplement for those who are taking it or have already done so.
The requirement to participate is having completed the externship or to have had some ongoing supervision or who have done some training with an EFT supervisor or trainer.
